What are the reasons for fishing?

In fact, there are many different reasons for fishing, including the following:

1. Fishing for food

Fish is the primary source of vitamin D, protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and many other minerals, making it the food most frequently recommended by doctors and nutritionists. The most well-known types are:

• Squid
• Crabs and others.

2. Recreation and Sports

Most small-scale fishing activities carried out by individuals are done for fun and recreation, or to participate in fishing competitions; however, fishing requires adherence to a set of rules and licenses, as well as compliance with a series of agreements and regulations that govern fishing methods.

It is worth noting that the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) establishes a set of guidelines and regulations to govern recreational fishing and oversees their enforcement in a variety of ways.

Fishing Methods

Fishing is characterized by a range of key methods for professional and distinctive fishing. It is worth noting that there are many different methods, but we will mention the most important ones:

1. Spearfishing

It is one of the most entertaining and enjoyable forms of fishing, and its history dates back a long time, to a period before the invention of fishing rods or nets.

2. Bait fishing

It is one of the oldest and most widespread methods of fishing around the world, in which the angler attaches bait to a hook at the end of a fishing line, and when a fish takes the bait, the angler reels the line in. Fishermen also use a lead weight to sink the bait to the depths of the sea or rivers.

Fishermen also use another type of bait fishing that is widely used in streams and rivers; it is called a spinning reel and is used to reach fish hiding under rocks and tree trunks.

3. Fly fishing

This is a very popular fishing method among anglers and fishing enthusiasts. The process involves using artificial lures made of feathers or hair that mimic the insects on which the target fish feed, by attaching them to a fishing line, which is then gently cast into the water to avoid scaring the fish.

4. Drop-shot fishing

This is a unique fishing method that uses a rod ranging from 1.5 to 1.8 meters in length, equipped with a reel attached to heavy-duty line capable of supporting a weight of up to 10 kilograms, At the end of the line is a live bait weighing between 1.8 and 28 grams or any metal lure that mimics the fish’s natural prey. The bait is then cast into waters teeming with fish.

5. Fishing with reels

This type of fishing is similar to bottom fishing but differs in terms of the type of reel, the length of the rod, and the strength of the line used; it is ideal for beginner anglers.

6. Trawling

This type of fishing is intended for professionals who want to catch large fish in the oceans or seas, and involves attaching live or artificial bait that is towed behind a slow-moving boat. The rod used in this type of fishing ranges from 1.5 to 2.1 meters in length and features a heavy line with weights attached to it to deliver the bait to the greatest possible depth.  

7. Net fishing

 This type of fishing is considered more suitable for commercial purposes than for recreational or sporting activities, as fishing nets of various types are made from thin, knottable threads, usually nylon, wool, or silk.

Fishing equipment

There is a wide variety of fishing gear used for different purposes, but at Deep Dive Center, we focus on sport fishing as a form of recreation and leisure. Therefore, we will focus on the basic equipment used for fishing:

1. Fishing rod: A long fishing rod shaped like a stick or pole, made of fiberglass, carbon fiber, or bamboo. It comes in many shapes and lengths and is always equipped with guide rings and a reel.
2. Reel: A reel is used to release and retrieve fishing line. Reels are often equipped with electric or hydraulic motors to reduce the time and effort required by the angler to pull in and adjust the line.
3. Fishing line: This is a type of line used specifically for fishing, typically made of monofilament nylon or other materials. The strength of fishing line is determined by its ability to support the weight of the fish.
4. Hook: A metal tool shaped like the letter "J," with an opening at one end through which the fishing line passes; the curved end is used to attach the bait, making it easier to hook the fish when it takes the bait.
5. Sinker: This component pushes the bait to the desired depth, and there is a wide variety of sinkers available in different weights and shapes.
6. Bait: This refers to any type of bait intended for fish, which is placed on the hook to attract the fish; when the fish approaches the hook, it is quickly reeled in.
7. Sinkers and floats: Sinkers and floats are attached to the fishing line with clips to allow them to move freely.
